20 Days of Gold Making - Day Twenty.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Lets spread some blog love - which are your 'must read' or 'go to' gold blogs or even other places you go for information & reading matter?"

This is the last post in Nev's series! Aww! I've enjoyed doing these posts and I'm a little sad that they're over but we're going to end on a positive note and spread a little bit of love!

Gold Making Podcasts. These are a few of the gold making podcasts out there some of them are no longer updated (Auction house junkies and Call to auction) but that doesn't mean that they're not still full of information and strategies/theories.

Power Word Gold
Your WoW Money
Journal of Markus Ty
Auction House Junkies
The Drunken Mogul
Bitter and Salty
Call to Auction

 Gold Making Blogs. I'll be honest I'm not really in the habit of reading gold making blogs anymore as I prefer to listen to podcasts while I'm doing other things. I tend to read general wow blogs more. I do however always read Nev's blog though perhaps because I think of her as a friend so I'm interested in what she's got to say and what she's been upto.

AH Addict

Jim from Power Word Gold created a gold blog directory which is a great resource for people looking to discover new blogs. I'm not sure how often it's updated but it lists a lot of sites which may or may not have been updated in a while. You can still read old theories and apply them to today's market.

Huge thank you to Nev for creating this blogging challenge it's been a blast and I hope some of you have enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed doing it. I hope you've learned something or at least are able to take something away from these posts even if it's just where to find real information on gold making! Hah!

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Nineteen.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Have you bought yourself anything really expensive as a reward for earning all that gold? Or do you have a self-present in mind for when you reach your goal?"

Hell yeah! I'm all about the spending! I've not only lavished myself with gifts buy my friends too! My first big purchase after hitting gold cap was my Spectral Tiger - a mount I'd coveted for years. I've bought a great deal of mounts and pets some from the Black Market auction house, some of which I've posted about on the blog.

I've bought my Fiance a Rooster mount, given away about eight Vial of the Sands and multiple Hogs. Geared my Fiance up for raiding on various alt to the sum of about 200k.

I dread to think how much gold I've actually spend but that's the good thing about making gold! I've never fully understood making it just to sit on it!

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Eighteen.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"18.What is the most important bit of advice you could give to a new gold maker? (not a game newbie though, just a newbie gold maker)"

Any advice I could give you on gold making is probably already out there so I'm going to give you a bit of personal advice instead.

Fuck off Soco, I just want dem golds! Tough!

Gold making is great and it's an awesome little side project to work on but be careful not to fall into a trap on being too focused on it. World of Warcraft is a fantastic game with so much to do. It's also a social game. I suffer from depression, anxiety and panic disorder for a while I slipped into doing very little aside from gold making. It's a very solitary hobby and before I knew it I realized I no longer spoke to anyone or played with anyone in game.

Throughout MoP I've stopped focusing on making gold so much and actually joined a guild with people rather than having all of my characters in a guild bank with only myself and it's made a huge change to my game and my happiness.

I'm not saying this happens to everyone and I don't want to be a debby downer but just keep an eye on it. Make sure you take time out from scouring the auction house and TUJ to knock out some Arena, heroics, raids or pet battles and try to have fun outside of gold making with other people!

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Sixteen/Seventeen

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.
The question for today is;

"Flipping! Do you flip stuff regularly or sometimes? Big ticket items or smaller high volume stuff?"
"Pets - Did you used to do the Vendor pet sales? How have pet battles changed things for you"

I'm going to combine these two questions.

I'm a bit risk averse so I tend to stay away from big flips. At the moment I'm leveling a second Priest to 90 on my Fiance's server. I don't like relying on him for gold so I've been making my own by flipping leveling greens and a few transmogrification items.

Caging a battle pet.
Something I do really enjoy is flipping pets. I play on a much quieter server than that of my Fiance so it's often easier and cheaper to buy pets off of his auction house. I not only pick up pets for my own use but the majority of level 25 pets on his server cost 2-4k whereas they cost between 6-9k on mine. When I'm not sneakily buying pets for my own use I buy a few to resell on my own server.

Pets which you don't pick up in the wild via battles or pets from achievements can be put into a cage and sold on the auction house. After you buy a pet and take it out of your mailbox upon clicking it you'll learn that pet and it'll show up in your pet journal. From there you can log any other server and open up your pet journal, right click on the pet and select Put in Cage and then re list the pet on the auction house of that server.

This is a fantastic way to move gold between servers and great if you're looking to make some gold on a new server. The sales can be slow so don't be afraid to bark your pets in trade chat.

Before pets became what they are now I did often buy and sell vendor pets. They were always a fantastic market, people were either too lazy to find the pets themselves or didn't know about blogs or site such as wowhead but either way I was happy to profit off of them. I haven't looked into them for a while with the way that pets work now but it may be something worth looking into!

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Fifteen.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Professions - do you have all of them, some or none? Which is your favorite for goldmaking?"

Master of All.

All of them! I love professions, even before I got into gold making all of my characters had two max professions. It just didn't feel right not to! It wasn't until I got into making gold that I actually began to use their potential!

If you're thinking about getting into gold making definitely have a really good look at your professions and work out some synergy between them. For example Alchemists can transmute Living Steel from Trillium on a daily cool down but they can also transmute Trillium from Ghost Iron bars. Ghost Iron bars are often more expensive than ore so if you have a miner you can cut your costs by smelting your own ore. Living Steel and Trillium are used in Blacksmithing and Engineering.

Double up on professions other than gathering professions. Most if not all professions have daily cool downs such as Living Steel from Alchemy and specialist cloth from Tailoring. If you have characters whom you maybe don't play so much pick up professions on them, they'll take a bit of an investment to get started but as you begin churning out those daily cool downs you'll soon reap the benefits!

As for my favorite well that has to go to Jewelcrafting.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Fourteen.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"14. How much of your playtime is devoted to gold making? Do you raid/pvp/pet battle too or is the AH your main playtime?"

Gold making has always just been a side thing for me. Up until Cataclysm raiding was always my main priority. I hit gold cap just before I quit raiding during Dragon Soul and I actually made a blog post detailing my daily gold making routine looking back at it now is mind blogging how much I actually used to do compared to now!

I also wrote a post a few weeks ago about having transferred server multiple times. In doing so I lost most of my crafting alts. As I mentioned in that post I'm contemplating moving to Horde but I'm still waiting to hear more about connected realms before I level more alts. For the moment I'll be honest and say that I actually don't make gold any more. Sure I still make some, I still flip pets from one of my busier servers to a quiet one. I still sell random bits and bobs I pick up but I'll now happily sell materials I pick up on the auction house rather than mail them to alts to craft more profitable items.

For the moment pet Battling, PvP, reputation grinding and achievements are so much further up my list. Who knows what Warlords of Dreanor will bring though!

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Twelve and Thirteen.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Your biggest "oops!" moment and your biggest "yay!" moment.

I'm going to combine day twelve and thirteen as my biggest oops and yay were one in the same!

For Cataclysm my fiance and I pre-ordered our copies of the game online. Most of our guild got theirs the day before release so as soon as the clock hit midnight they were all able to go explore Cataclysm zones and start leveling. But ours hadn't come. Mine eventually came late afternoon on the day of release but my boyfriend still hadn't showed up, nor did it the next day. I felt guilty playing any of the new content so I decided instead to play around with my level fifty Paladin on another server.

Given that the new expansion had just hit I decided to have a poke around on the auction house and see what kind of prices all of the new mats were going for as they're typically a few hundred gold per stack. My jaw hit the floor. There was fifty something stacks of Elementium ore on bid with no buyout for 1g a stack as well as seventy odd stacks of Whiptail from the same seller again with no buyout but a bid price under 1g. I've never clicked so fast! I stalked the auction house for a few hours and I won all of the auctions. I was ecstatic! Flipping all of these mats for the inflated new expansion prices would get my baby Paladin thousands of gold! That was my biggest "yay!" moment.

Unfortunately my biggest "oops!" moment wasn't far behind. See on this new server all of my usual names were taken. Korla was taken which is always my go to name for my little Priesties. Amadri, my usual Paladin name had also been taken, Leala was taken! Argh! Every name I usually use was taken due to it being a much larger server than I was used to. I settled on Lealla for my Priest and Lounie for my Paladin. Once I had won all of the auctions for the Cataclysm materials I had to send them off to another alt due to Lounie simply being unable to carry it all. I sent everything to Leala to repost at the correct price.

Wait, what? Wait, WAIT! WHAT? I quickly logged onto Lealla to find no mail. I had missed an "L". A quick armory search showed that Leala was taken by a low level troll. I quickly sent an in game mail to the character asking if I could have my stuff back. I never got a response. I checked the armory every couple of days and the character didn't seem to be leveling.

Thirty days after the original mail I logged in to my Paladin to find my mailbox full of the materials I'd accidentally sent! The mails I had sent to the random troll had all expired and my items had come back to me. Sadly they were no longer selling for the amount that they were in the first week or two of the expansion but they still net me a hefty profit.

I still got a happy ending and I immediately started using Postal as you can select your own alts from a drop down list.

I imagine if the original seller of the mats has a gold blog, their biggest oops would be accidentally listing all of their auctions under 1g! Poor thing.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Eleven.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Most of us use TSM, Auctioneer and.or Auctionator in combo with Postal - are there any other lesser known gold making addons you use?"

I'll be honest - I'm not a great lover of addons. Some people have a list of addons as long as their arm. I've always been able to make do with just a couple and this has spread into my gold making as well. It took me an incredibly long time to begin using TSM. I installed it once and uninstalled it a few days later being completely overwhelmed. I eventually went back to it after a few months with a bit more determination to learn and use it.

Recently my hard drive packed in and I've had to start over from scratch. Previous to this I did use TSM, Auctioneer and Auctionator and Postal. They all had their own uses but since losing everything I haven't picked Autioneer back up.

TSM version two has just been released and the mailing part of the addon has been completely changed. This may mean I have no use for Postal anymore but it's going to take a little bit more investigation. Overall the new TSM seems a little scary but I'm getting used to it. I only downloaded it last night so it's going to take a bit of practice!

The only other addons I use for gold making are Mysales to keep track of recent sales and BankStack. I'm incredibly messy and unorganized so having bankstack to keep my bags and guild banks in check is a god send! With a few simple commands it rearrange your bags/bank into items which are similar, it'll put all of your cloth together all of your ore together etc.

Mysales.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Ten.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Do you farm materials? Why? Why not? & which ones, where?"

The short answer is no. At least not specifically. I adore transmog, achievements and reputation which means I often find myself in older instances/raids and come out with a bunch of mats. I disenchant most of the gear pre Cataclysm. I shatter the Abyss Crystals I get from Wrath raids. Heavenly shards sell for very little so when it comes to Cataclysm raids I vendor the items instead. I turn Netherweave and Frostweave into bags.

I also make sure to do my Sunsong Ranch most days.
I enjoy farming leather, I actually find it kind of relaxing but I now don't have a Skinner. I have a visual impairment called Nystagmus which means that farming herbs and ore are pretty difficult for me. I get a really bad headache staring at the yellow dots on the mini-map as they're difficult for me to focus on. Constantly moving my eyes from the top right hand corner of my screen back to my character not only hurts my head but strains my eyes. This could be solved with addons such as moving my map to the middle of my screen or using a map overlay which covers my whole screen but it's just not something I've been interested in doing as I don't enjoy farming anyway.

Farming can be a great way to make some capital if you're new to gold making. The Undermine Journal is a fantastic resource if you're interested in farming up a bit of gold. Once you select your server. Mouse over Gathered on the top bar and select your chosen profession. Herbalism for example. TUJ will pull all of the information for all herbs and you'll be able to make a decision on what's better to farm. Materials from previous expansions typically sell well as they have fewer people gathering them.

Check WoW Professions and select a professions which will go along with your gathering professions. (You don't have to take this profession yourself but you'll be able to see which materials are required for that profession.) If we stick with Herbalism and look up Alchemy you'll see a list of all of the mats required to level Alchemy in a bullet point list. If you have Mining you could look up the Blacksmithing guide.

I'm not against farming I just don't really enjoy it. If there's something I need and there are none on the auction house. I'll likely go get it myself.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Nine

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"What's your favorite niche market & why?"

I'll admit I've been avoiding this topic slightly. Niche markets aren't something I've involved myself with often. So much so that I typed "Nice markets" four times before I finally got it right.

Niche markets were something I experimented with a lot when I started gold making. Items that there was a small/moderate demand for but little supply thus less competition.  Over time I've gradually let all of them fall off of my list of things to do. I got too comfortable just focusing on my professions and consumables.

My favorite niche market was always Scarlet Ruby and Sky Sapphire cuts. These are blue quality Wrath of the Lich King gems which you were are able to put into Burning Crusade item gem slots. The demand for these has decreased a little since the introduction of Heirlooms. Cloth wearers for example were able to obtain a blue quality robe at lvl 61 as well as trousers at lvl 60. Both of these had three gem slots each in them. All armor classes had equivalent gear throughout the BC instances.

Knowing that they'd replace these items most people weren't willing to fork out the 120g for the epic quality Wrath gems but spending 70g on a gem seemed to go down well. I was and often still am able to pick up Scarlet Ruby's for under 30g. I cut the Brilliant (16 Int) and Delicate (16 Agility) and sell them for between 50g-80g each. I never had much luck with the Bold so I don't cut those. I buy Sky Sapphire for under 10g and sell Solid (24 Stam) for 45g.

On my medium pop server it's rare that I come across competition for these gems. Keep in mind while demand for these gems has dwindled slightly due to heirlooms, not every has heirlooms.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Eight.

 Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Thinking back to day 2, did you ever reach your goal or are you still working towards it? If you reached it - have you set yourself a new one?"

In my day two post I mentioned that after the 4.2 Patch landed in late June. I was closing in on 500k at that time and I decided that I wanted to hit the new gold cap. I did reach my goal shorty after! I found the e-mail which I'd sent to Warcraft Econ in August of that year. A site which seems to no longer be in use. Whenever someone hit a gold making milestone they'd submit an interview to the site. Some of them were great reads and really inspiring when starting out. I'll post mine here, it's worth a laugh if nothing else.

I haven't set myself a new goal other than BUY ALL THE THINGS! Lately I've been on a massive spending spree. I've continued to make gold ever since although taking breaks from time to time and certainly not quite as vigorously as I use to. Which is great because I've found other things in game that I enjoy doing more than making gold.

Click on Read More to read my One Million Gold - Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame submission August 2011.

Also, this thing was a bitch to post. So please excuse any completely messed up spacing as I'm tired.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Seven.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"If you were starting over again (maybe on a new server perhaps), how would you start building some capital & what goal would you set yourself?"

I'm actually experiencing this first hand at the moment on two separate servers. I introduced my best friend to World of Warcraft late in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Using Recruit a Friend we initially leveled our characters really fast, too fast. With her being completely new to the game I had her roll a character on my server. While she enjoyed the game she fell pregnant during early Cataclysm and stopped playing. Now baby is just over one year old and sleeping well during the night she has her evenings mostly to herself giving her time to play again! Which works out great for me as WoW is a great way for us to keep in touch since I moved away from home. Thankfully with real ID we're still able to play together as I transferred off of the server not long after she quit playing.

One problem leveling so fast caused was her never having very much gold. Given that she's completely new to the game and finds a lot of it hard to grasp introducing her to the auction house and especially auction house addons is the last thing I want to do right now! So I've decided to make her some gold so it's one less thing she needs to worry about. Not a vast amount, I'd like her to get there on her own eventually but for now I want her to be able to buy things without having to worry about not having enough gold to repair or buy gems. I want her to have enough to buy a reputation related mount if she wants to.

I have a level eighty three very much abandoned Rogue left on the server which I have no intention of ever leveling. Now is the absolute perfect time to start on a new server or to start building a bit of capital if you're just starting out as the Darkmoon Faire is in town. .

In the water surrounding the Darkmoon Isle are fishing nodes called Shipwrecked Debris. Fishing from these pools awards you Sealed Crate's. Inside the Sealed Crate will be Mists of Pandaria crafting materials and potions (providing your game is upgraded to Mists of Pandaria). Each pool can contain one or two crates. The great thing about this is it can be done with lower levels as there are no hostile mobs in the area. While the Shipwrecked Debris can spawn all over the isle I tend to stick to the western shore as I can run along it without having to swim or jump over cliffs, especially good if you are on a lower level character.

Darkmoon Isle fishing route.
In half an hour I was able to fish up twenty eight crates although I was able to mount to run between pools. I picked up three mote of harmony which for the moment are pretty useless however I was able to sell the following mats. The crates also contain a few silver each.

4 Exotic Leather - 23g 95s
5 Spirit Dust - 24g 89s
61 Windwool Cloth - 73g 81s
3 Kyporite - 5g 45s
3 Black Trillium - 25g 92s
3 White Trillium - 22g 65s
17 Ghost Iron Ore - 42g 49s
28 Healing Potions - 105g 77s
1 Potion of the Mountains - 1g 85s
9 Darkmoon Firewater - 16g 91s

If the Darkmoon Faire isn't ongoing then don't worry there are plenty of other go to gold making tactics for starting out on a new server.

Gathering - Pick up two gathering professions while you level. I personally prefer Mining and Skinning. I feel with Mining and Herbalism I end up running all over the map chasing those yellow dots! I prefer Mining over Herbalism due to the Smelting part of the professions. You can often find Ore which you can Smelt into Bars and resell at a higher price.

Flipping Vendor Items - If you're playing Alliance there is a vendor is Stormwind Kendor Kabonka who sells Cooking recipies. You don't have to have cooking to purchase these. You can purchase them all for only a few silver each (he sells two BoP recopies - don't buy those). They can sell on the Auction house from anywhere between 4g and 100g. Your server may vary. I find around 35g to be a reasonable price to sell them at if there aren't any on the auction house. This guy is just one of many.

Visit this post on The Consortium with multiple lists of vendor and limited supply recipes.

Battle Pets - One of the great things about Battle Pets is that you can cage them and trade them to other players or sell them on the Auction House. If you've created a new alt on a smaller population server than the one you ordinarily play on this can net you some serious gold. Having previously played on a High population server I was able to buy several level twenty five pets for under three thousand gold. I later sold these on my own Medium population server for nine thousand gold each!

The pets you obtain from Vanilla raids which as part of the Raiding with leaches achievement can all be caged and sold. With your higher level character on your main server you can easily farm these pets once a week from Molten Core, Naxxramus, Blackwing Lair and Ahn'Qiraj. When on your new character on your new server, open up your Pet Journal, find the pet and right click on it to cage it. This can then be sold on the Auction House. They don't always sell for much but if you're just looking for a bit of start up cash they'll certainly do the trick.

Flipping items - These methods should help you gather a bit of gold and once you do you can start browsing the Auction House for items to flip. I flip a lot of armour for either transmogrification or for leveling characters. At level seventy seven you can begin wearing Cataclysm green armour and at level eighty three you can begin wearing Mists of Pandaria green armour. As these items increase your stats by an crazy amount people are willing to spend a lot of gold on them for alts. I typically buy these green items for under sixty gold and resell them for two hundred and eighty. Be aware of the stats on the armour before you purchase them. No one is going to want that plate helm with Strength and Spirit.

Mithrildar posted a collection of useful gold making threads post on the Consortium Forum with posts detailing acquiring capital, crafting, flipping and addons which is absolutely fantastic for anyone starting out.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Six.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"Which market has made you the most gold over the years?"

Cataclysm Gem, guild bank.
Jewelcrafting has always been a huge part of my gold making. During Cataclysm I put a lot of time and effort into the gem market. I was lucky enough to be on a medium population server with very little competition.

I started off selling gems during Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Every time I had excess honour I would purchase gems from the vendor in Dalaran and cut them into popular cuts.  I eventually started picking up uncut gems from the auction house to cut and resell for profit.

During Cataclysm I was heavily invested into the Obsidium Shuffle. This involved buying Obsidium or Elementium ore - prospecting the ore which yielded blue quality gems as well as green quality gems. The blue gems were cut into popular cuts and the green gems were used to craft jewelery to be disenchanted and made into scrolls.

With the release of Mists of Pandaria the gem market changed. In previous expansions learning recipes to cut gems were obtained via daily quests which rewarded tokens, allowing you to purchase the cuts you wanted. MoP introduced a new system which gave jewelcrafters a daily cooldown for each colour of blue quality MoP gem.

Using three uncut blue quality gems (Primordial Ruby for example) rewards you with an item called Facets of Research. Within this item will be two pre cut Primordial Rubies and you will learn a new randomly selected pattern for Primordial Ruby. You also have the option to learn blue quality cuts by using three Spirit of Harmonys' this method doesn't have a cool down.

This meant that for a good few months at the beginning of the expansion uncut gems were often more expensive than cut gems. As people needed them both for research as well as the new Jewelcrafting Panther mounts. The demand for uncut gems seems to have settled down a lot in the past month or two so the prices have dropped and with content being released at a higher rate than previous expansions the gem market is still thriving.

Mists also changed the way that Perfect cut gems worked. Previously, cutting green gems in Cataclysm had the chance to give you a Perfect cut. These gems had an additional five stats compared to an ordinary green cut gems and five less than a blue quality cut. Green gems in general have always been considered garbage but could provide a cheaper alternative if you knew you would receive an upgrade very soon.

Cutting green quality Mists of Pandaria gems still gives you the chance to proc a perfect gem however they're now blue quality and have the same amount of stats as a typical blue quality MoP gem.

You can often buy uncut green quality gems for very little in order to mass craft them into popular cuts hoping for perfect cuts.

WoWPopular is a great resource for finding out which cuts to start with if you're new to Jewelcrafting. They list the most popular gems and enchants for every class and spec.

The Undermine Journal also provides a fantastic breakdown for gems for your server. Under Crafted > Jewelcrafting. Make sure to read the text underneath "The Gems Array" to fully understand what the charts are showing you.

The Undermine Journal (EU)
The Undermine Journal (US)

I love the Gem market, partially because it's always been good to me and because it's the profession of my main.  It's just her thing.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Four and Five.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

I've incorporated two questions into one post.

The question for today is;

Do you use a banker alt/guild? When did you start doing that & why?
Do you keep the same banker alt or do you change them up occasionally? Why?

Soco. Guild bank.
I use both. I often go back and forth between using a bank alt and not. Both have their advantages and disadvantages but I've always used a guild bank. Using one character to handle all of your sales means that your mailbox can get clogged up pretty fast. Constantly mailing items around can cause items to get lost or backed up in mailboxes.

Soco was my first real bank character devoted to having her own guild bank. She handed all of my auction housing. During Wrath and Cataclysm as a raider I kept not only my main but the majority of my alts in my raiding guild. So I used Soco for selling everything. Anything I crafted was mailed straight to her, every week I'd take out the appropriate materials and send them to each of my alts for their daily cooldowns for the week.

More recently having taken a bit of a break from raiding my Priest is the guild leader of her own  level twenty five guild which also contains all of my alts. This makes handling materials easier as well as maintaining daily cooldowns. Anything I buy can be deposited straight into the bank rather than mailing things around every day. I prefer this method personally.

I do however have certain characters which handle certain items;

Priest - JC rings and random things I pick up during daily quests as she's my most played character I like to keep her bags as clear as I can.
Shaman - Flasks, potions and food. Anything required pre raid.
Druid - Raid consumables such as gems, enchant scrolls, leg armours and belt buckles. Anything required post raid.
Rogue - Crafted Blacksmith, Leatherworking and Tailoring crafted PvP gear as well as MoP and Cata flipping greens.
Warclock - Glyphs.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day Three

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

What were the first techniques/tricks/tips you used when starting out?

Jeez, it's been such a long time it's hard to really remember. As I mentioned in Day One of this Gold making blogging challenge I started making gold though necessity, needing thousands of herbs to mill down and turn into inks to make Darkmoon Cards for reputation. Along with the Inks needed to make cards they also required Eternal Life. The prices on these Eternals fluctuated wildly depending on how many people on the server were doing the same reputation grind and whether the weekly quest in Wintersgrasp required you to kill the nature mobs or one of the other elements.

Frozen Orbs. In an attempt to save money where I could I started to buy Frozen Orbs off of the Auction House for a maximum of 15g and trade them into Frozo in Dalaran for Eternal Life which at the time were closer to 25-30g each. Once I'd completed my FoS I continued to trade in Orbs but for Eternal Fire.which typically sold for 38-45g each.

Netherweave Bags. One of the first things I did when I started making gold in World of Warcraft was to sit down and really think about what people would buy. What I bought. One of the things on that list was bags. I've always been a bit of an alt-aholic and one of the first things I always do is mail a new alt some bags. I wasn't about to risk losing gold on crafting Frostweave bags as I didn't have much but Netherweave Cloth was low enough for me to give a shot. Buying Netherweave Cloth for 3g a stack. One bag requires one stack of cloth, I'd sell the bags anywhere between 12g and 30g.

Tailoring Cloths. Ebonweave, Moonshroud and Spellweave were fantastic sellers for me during Wrath of the Lich King. They were required to make BoE epics. While I was never interested in trying to sell the epics myself I was more than happy to provide the cloth at a huge markup. Using Frozen Orbs to trade into more expensive Eternals continued to pay off with this one!

Halaani Claymore. Within Halaa there's a vendor called Aldraan who sells the Halaani Claymore as well as a thrown weapon (which is no longer sold as they were removed from the game). These items used to be fantastic for disenchanting when your faction held Halaa. There was a point during Wrath of the Lich King where Feral Druids and Rogues used the Mongoose enchant from The Burning Crusade as it was best in slot for a short while until it was nerfed. This vendor gave me an incredibly cheap and lazy way to acquire Arcane Dust and Greater Cosmic Essences.

Exchanging Borean leather for Arctic Fur. In Darlaran you can exchange 10 Heavy Borean Leather for One Arctic Fur from Braeg Stoutbeard. This was fantastic for me. I'd grab up any cheap leather I could get my grubby hands on.

Vendor Recipes. Often vendors have items of interest. I myself am pretty lazy when it comes to visiting a vendor for a recipe while leveling a profession and I'm not the only one. Faid make an awesome video showing the route she uses to pick up vendor recopies for flipping. Make sure to visit Faid's Blog ClockworkRiot she writes a fantastic World of Warcraft gold blog as well as the new Litecast in which she answers gold making related questions.

Some of these methods of gold making are slightly time sensitive especially the tailoring cloths however bags are still profitable on most servers, Frostweave and Embersilk bags continue to be great sellers for me. Flipping vendor recopies and pets never gets old.

20 Days of gold Making - Day Two

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.

The question for today is;

"If you set yourself a goal, what was your goal & at what point did you set it?"

I mentioned in my last post in this gold making series after I'd completed my FoS I continued to make gold. I didn't purposefully set any goals for myself in Wrath of the Lich King but shortly after my new found success with the auction house I discovered gold blogs. Since I'd been a follower of the Livejournal community WoW_Ladies I knew that World of Warcraft blogs existed but I wasn't aware of just how many there were. Or that there were any dedicated to making gold in game. I understood that you could purchase gold or guides to help you make gold but I wasn't aware of all of the free information out there available from people with an interest in that side of the game, who wanted to teach and help other people to make their own gold.

Mage Tier Four.

 Just My Two Copper, Hit the Cap and Stockpile were among the first few gold blogs I'd found. I was able to pick up a lot more information and progressed further into my own gold making. I hit the original gold cap of 214k right before the start of Cataclysm but I don't remember actively seeking it.

In late June of 2011, during Cataclysm the 4.2 patch landed which not only introduced The Firelands but made Tier eleven available from vendors with Justice Points. I made around 200k from gems, enchants and various item enhancements I had stockpiled before the patch. By that point I was nearing 500k and decided to make a push towards the new gold cap of One million.

20 Days of Gold Making - Day One.

Nev from Auction House Addict has created a community project for the gold makers among us 20 Days of Gold Making You can find a list of all of the participants in this blog post at AH addict.
This post will also be part of the February Gold Blogging Carnival over at Cold's Gold Factory.

The first question in the series is;

"When did you start gold making & what triggered it?"

My journey into gold making didn't kick off until later in Wrath of the Lich King despite having played since Vanilla WoW. In my first few months of WoW I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Auction House. When killing mobs I'd loot the coins and leave the rest of the items on the corpses. A friend had told me cloth was used in tailoring and I wasn't a tailor so I saw no use for it, the same went for leather or cloth BoE greens. I played a Warrior, I wore mail I didn't need any of this useless trash! Little did I know then that once I got to level forty I wouldn't be able afford my first mount which at the time was a whopping 100g. Thankfully I did have a friend who played the game and he took me to Western Plaguelands to farm Runecloth and BoE items to sell on my newly discovered Auction House and I was finally able to buy my mount and training around level forty five / forty eight. I continued to use this method of making gold for the rest of Vanilla as some nights I could barely afford to repair after raiding. Farming on a Protection Warrior was tedious and sometimes difficult so I stuck to lower level mobs.

Throughout The Burning Crusade I managed to maintain a steady flow of gold from running my daily heroics and posting any additional cloth and crafting materials on the Auction House. By the middle of BC I had five level seventies all with maxed out professions. I sold everything I picked up on the Auction House but I never spent any of my gold. Having all of my professions maxed meant that I could farm the mats for whatever I needed to craft for my own use. It never dawned on me that other people would also need gems, armour patches or food buffs.

During Wrath of the Lich King Blizzard introduced a Feat of Strength called Insane in the Membrane. I knew I wanted it but I had no idea how I was going to get it. I'd already read a post on the WoW_Ladies community on Livejournal about someone who had farmed all of the herbs needed to complete the Darkmoon Faire exalted section of the achievement. At the time there was no Darkmoon Faire with daily quests to hand in for reputation You had to hand in Darkmoon Decks in exchange for BoE trinkets. You could collect the cards from instances, rare mobs or create them with Inscription. I attempted to follow in her footsteps and farm herbs in Zangarmash in order to create cards but I very quickly realized that wasn't going to work for me. I hated farming and I decided I had to find another way.

I had around seven thousand gold and six level eighties. It was at this point that I started using the Auction house daily and getting creative with ways to not only save gold but make gold. I scrapped the idea of making Burning Crusade cards deciding to focus on Wrath of the Lich King cards. Many of the trinkets still sold for 3,000-5,000g meaning I would be able to recoup some of my gold back if I bought the herbs to craft the cards I'd also check the AH every day for cheap cards. I installed Auctioneer which provided me with %'s and market values on the right hand side of the AH interface allowing me to gauge when was a good time to buy and when was a good time to sell. Previous to the addons I was completely oblivious to the idea of market value. I just expected items to be the same price every day. I'd never really given the WoW economy much though. Since I could only hand in my Darkmoon decks once every month there came weeks where I'd have little to no gold after buying stacks upon stacks of Icethorn to mill.

In order to continue buying materials I had to find a way to make gold while waiting for the faire to come to town to sell my trinkets. Once I began to think about it, it became really obvious to me that the things I need other people also need. Everyone needs gems, enchants, flasks, bags etc. I started buying up Netherweave Cloth for 3g per stack and selling the bags for 12g. I'd check the Auction House for cheap gems during the day to cut and sell after raid time.

I slowly started making more gold than I was hemorrhaging out on herbs and even after I had completed my feat of strength I continued making gold. It was in my blood now, part of my routine and something I continue to do today.
